A passion that holds many values...

Miss Flower Creations specialises in slowly handcrafting Copper Jewellery from recycled and reclaimed copper, creating timeless pieces for many to adorn.

Hi, I'm Sonya Flower...the Maker, Owner and very soul of Miss Flower Creations. If I'm not busy making away in my home studio located just 25mins away from Redcliffe and Dayboro, Brisbane, you'll find me out and about in my very own cool little Morris Ute collecting scraps of copper or timber.

Why Copper?

The question I get asked so often...

When I first started, I wouldn't of been able to give you an answer more than the fact it was different and I didn't want to be honed into a particular style of making. But now over the years that I have stayed true to sticking with Copper metal and learning it's many qualities, I learnt it is it's character that I really loved, it's energies, it's glow, it's sparkle, it's grounding and amplifying effects. For me Copper is the Sun. And where Olive Green comes into it, well it was the most worn coloured tshirt I'd wear throughout most of my young adult life..so only naturally it became my prominent business colour, it represents the Earth for me.

My passion for creation comes from a childhood of always seeking the textures of many mechanical things. My Dad was a builder of homes and tinkered with cars in his spare time and so I got to handle many old tools. My partner of 25yrs is a huge old school car enthusiast and metal car panel restoration lover and would often spot me seeking out his tools I knew he wasn't using...this is an integral part of my making today. My Studio is filled with many old tools that I have brought back from life of rust or saved going to the tip or has been handed down to me as I now tinker full time and love good old quality metal. With all my creations, there will be marks from this very history. Marks from an old hammer once used by a builder of old or an old blacksmiths anvil that has the gouge's still upon it's top.

I am 95% self taught and absolutely love learning, so will continue to learn new skills and create different pieces along my journey. I'll also happily learn from an old school maker any day. Currently I'm learning Lapidary - gemstone cutting and polishing. And also copper casting. These are the main two skills I wanted to learn for my Solo Exhibition later this year. This can take up so much time, but so well worth it. I cannot wait for all my ideas that have scattered my mind and sketchbooks for ages, to come to life.

My first ever piece of copper was a piece from our power box in our garage, a 'Busbar'. It sat there on my bench patiently waiting for me to see it and see it's potential... 8 months later it became the very first piece I make and I still get to wear it on my wrist everyday as the first Wide Copper Cuff with the dimpled hammered texture I call 'Diamante'.

As a small business, I do my utmost best to be environmentally friendly and offer packaging that can either be recycled or kept. Our jewellery bags are a keepsake and is a great way of storing your jewellery to keep clean or while travelling. I love supporting small and local too, so many of my suppliers and scrap suppliers are found around Brisbane or at most Australian made supplied.

You can find me as a regular fortnight stallholder at the massive Redcliffe Sunday markets, 40mins north of Brisbane. Or find me keeping shop and enjoying my connection day at The Churn Room, Dayboro, about a 50min drive north-west of Brisbane.

To those whom visit my online store or visit me at the markets, I would like to say a warm and very grateful
